On Feb. 23, 2018, Coinbase notified a group of 13,000 Coinbase users that they had received a summons from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding their accounts. The IRS demanded that Coinbase provide taxpayer ID, name, birth date, address and historical transaction records for certain high transacting customers during the 2013-2015 period.
