Regulators Investigate Whether Coincheck Can Compensate Hack Victims

Japanese financial regulators are scrutinizing the cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck to see whether they can really afford to compensate customers for lost funds. The exchange faced a crisis in late January as 500 mln NEM, valued at $530 mln, were stolen by hackers. Following the breach, Coincheck announced their plan to repay users for 80 percent of their losses, or $420 mln total.
