China’s Government Silences Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Messaging Groups

The Chinese Internet Police Division has ramped up their efforts to bar cryptocurrency trading in China. The most recent move by China’s government has been to silence cryptocurrency trading messaging groups on the popular platform WeChat. One of the most recognized groups, 3am Sleepless WeChat Group, was voluntarily closed on Feb. 28th by the organizer of the group chat. When the organizer of the chatroom was asked why he chose to voluntarily close the messaging group he said,

“you will all know in a few days.”

It is rumored that the People’s Bank of China is going to release new regulation on March 15th that regulates and restricts the use of cryptocurrency in China.
