Coinbase Not at Fault for Double Charging Customers, Says Visa, Worldpay

Coinbase was not at fault for the multiple charges some customers experienced, according to a joint statement by Visa and payment processor Worldpay. While the two companies had initially blamed Coinbase for the duplicate charges, upon further investigation, they found that Coinbase was not at fault. The cause of the mistaken charges was a change in the merchant category code (MCC) that Visa uses to identify cryptocurrency purchases.
