On March 20, Jack Dorsey took to Twitter to announce that he is opening new job positions for ‘cryptocurrency engineers’ at his payment startup, Square. Those who land the job will be able to work remotely and receive salaries in Bitcoin.
#BitcoinTwitter and #CryptoTwitter! Square is hiring 3-4 crypto engineers and 1 designer to work full-time on open source contributions to the bitcoin/crypto ecosystem. Work from anywhere, report directly to me, and we can even pay you in bitcoin! Introducing @SqCrypto. Why?

In such a way, Dorsey wants to improve ‘the broader crypto ecosystem’. Notably, Square isn’t pursuing its own business interests with this recent initiative. Dorsey claimed that his company benefited from open source initiatives, and now it’s time to create one of their own.
It is worth mentioning that Bitcoin is the only available cryptocurrency on the Square app (and altcoins are very unlikely to appear there anytime soon).
