Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet is about to make a grand entry as it looks to venture into Super League with a large portion of its Bitcoin holdings.
The company has officially announced its plans to invest 2,100 BTC in Super League as part of its deal to create a new Bitcoin treasury platform in the U.S. through the enterprise.
Known for its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy, Metaplanet already boasts up to 43,000 BTC in its treasury holdings. With its latest $132 million investment deal, Metaplanet has ventured about 4.9% of its Bitcoin holdings into the proposed treasury launch.
Metaplanet to launch Superplanet
Following the massive Bitcoin investment in Super League, Metaplanet revealed it will rename the firm to Superplanet, Inc., which will begin to operate as its U.S. Bitcoin treasury platform.
After its upcoming launch, the company will remain listed on Nasdaq under the new ticker SUPA, while its existing advertising and media business will continue to operate as a separate segment.
With this move, Metaplanet aims to offer access to a Nasdaq-listed company backed by a major Bitcoin treasury in the U.S. Meanwhile, it will maintain its operating business alongside its digital asset holdings.
How long until Superplanet launches?
Although Metaplanet has yet to disclose an actual launch date for its Superplanet Bitcoin treasury, it revealed that the business deal with Super League is still undergoing major processes.
It noted that the proposed Superplanet launch is still subject to shareholder approval, Nasdaq filings, and other regulatory and customary processes in both the U.S. and Japan.
Nonetheless, the business dealings are expected to close in Q4 2026, after which Superplanet can start operating as a Bitcoin treasury firm in the U.S., backed by Metaplanet.
