Rating Methodology
Each exchange is evaluated across seven core parameters, with each category receiving a score from 1 to 5. The final rating is calculated using a weighted scoring system that reflects the relative importance of each factor to the overall quality and reliability of an exchange.
Security
Weight: 20%
This category evaluates the exchange's ability to protect user funds and account information. The assessment considers its security track record, proof-of-reserves practices, asset protection measures, two-factor authentication, custody practices and overall security infrastructure.
Regulatory Compliance
Weight: 15%
This parameter assesses the exchange's regulatory standing and compliance framework. Factors include available licenses, regulatory registrations, compliance with applicable laws, transparency regarding its legal structure and operating jurisdictions.
Trading Liquidity
Weight: 20%
Liquidity measures how efficiently users can buy and sell assets. The assessment considers trading volume, order book depth, bid-ask spreads and the exchange's ability to process larger orders without significant price impact. Exchanges with deep liquidity and consistently tight spreads receive higher scores.
Fees
Weight: 10%
This category evaluates the overall cost of using the exchange. It considers trading fees, deposit and withdrawal fees, spreads, and other applicable charges. The rating takes into account both standard fees and the competitiveness of the exchange's pricing compared with the broader market. Lower and more transparent costs generally result in higher scores.
Asset & Market Selection
Weight: 10%
This parameter measures the breadth and quality of trading offerings. It considers the number of supported cryptocurrencies, trading pairs and available markets. The assessment also takes into account whether the platform provides access to established assets as well as a meaningful selection of newer or less widely available cryptocurrencies.
User Experience
Weight: 10%
This category evaluates how easy and convenient the exchange is to use. Factors include platform design, navigation, trading interface, account management and mobile experience. A well-designed platform that is accessible to both newer and experienced traders receives a higher score.
Reputation and Track Record
Weight: 15%
This parameter assesses the overall standing within the cryptocurrency industry. It considers operating history, past security or operational incidents, transparency, user sentiment and broader industry reputation. Exchanges with a long and consistent operating history, strong transparency, and a positive reputation receive higher scores.
Overall valuation
The final rating is calculated as a weighted average of the seven individual scores. The result is expressed on a 1 to 5 scale and rounded to one decimal place.
