Savage, a photograph and video NFT marketplace, has gotten itself a new ambassador: legendary photographer and videographer Paul Nicklen, who will act as the project's contributor and advisor.
Nicklen is a Canadian photographer, marine biologist and filmmaker who has been following our planet's beauty for over 20 years by documenting virtually everything nature offers.
He has been serving as an assignment photographer for National Geographic magazine and Sony Artisan of Imagery. Nicklen has earned a reputation as the world's most recognized polar specialist and conservationist with his creative and high-profile work.
But while being one of the world's most renowned photographers and owning petabytes of video footage, Nicklen has not given the NFT industry a look until now. He had a negative attitude toward NFTs because of their negative environmental impact.

According to various environmental studies, the carbon footprint of an average single-edition NFT piece equals a 1,000-kilometer drive in a gasoline-fueled car. Additionally, one artist had tracked the carbon footprint of an NFT collection over the span of six months and concluded that it equals 260-megawatt hours. The same amount of power could be used to power the average house in Europe for a whopping 77 years.
Neutralizing carbon footprint
To neutralize its carbon footprint, NFT photo and video platform Savage has entered the space in partnership with Polygon Studios, the Crypto Climate Accord and EnergyWeb with the goal of creating a truly carbon-neutral decentralized application.
With the help of Polygon Network's proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithm and the advising of Crypto Climate Accord and EnergyWeb, the marketplace will be able to effectively manage carbon offsets.
The pro-environmental measures allowed Savage to become the world's first carbon-neutral NFT marketplace for 8K video and high-resolution photography.
