The XRP Ledger has surpassed 5 billion lifetime transactions since its launch. Popular XRP explorer xrpscan highlighted this milestone in a recent X post: "Looks like the XRPL crossed the 5 billion all-time transactions mark."
Hussein Zangana (Vet) in an X post highlighted this milestone, saying, "5 billion transactions were executed on the XRP Ledger at low cost, settled in 3–4 seconds and consistently over 14 years. Looking forward to the next 5 billion."
The XRP Ledger first launched in June 2012. Back in 2011, three engineers—David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto—began building the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Interested in Bitcoin, they sought to create a better version that solved some of its shortcomings—a digital asset that was more sustainable and built for payments.
Now 14 years after its initial launch, the XRP Ledger continues to run and has surpassed 5 billion transactions.
XRP Ledger continues expansion
In a recent milestone, over 2.3 million agentic transactions have been settled on the XRP Ledger as AI agents continue to use XRP and RLUSD to pay for services directly on-chain.
XRP's utility continues to grow, particularly for institutional DeFi use cases such as tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity.
The RWA (real-world asset) value on the XRP Ledger has quadrupled since 2026, and the represented asset value is currently $4.05 billion according to rwa.xyz data.
On the XRP Ledger, transaction fees are systematically burned, applying deflationary pressure to XRP's permanently capped 100 billion total supply. Since the XRP Ledger's inception, about 14,376,417 XRP has been burned, representing 0.014% of the total supply. Total XRP accounts have surpassed 8 million at 8,094,489.
U.S. spot XRP ETFs are collectively holding $1.4 billion in XRP (1.62% of market cap), while cumulative net inflows are currently $1.62 billion.
In recent news, Mastercard has joined as a sponsor of the XRP Ledger Hackathon, which the XRP Ledger Foundation is co-hosting just before the Ripple Swell event in October.
