As XRP Ledger activity picks up speed, its built-in burn mechanism is receiving more attention. While the amount of XRP destroyed by transaction fees is still higher than its recent average, recent network data reveals significant increases across transactions and payments.

Is XRP burn relevant?

According to XRPL data, there were roughly 2.1 million transactions, a 23.9% increase, while successful transactions increased by 15.7% to 1.6 million. Transactions per ledger increased by 24.6% to 103.33, and payments saw an even greater 31.5% increase to 708,100.

Because the XRPL permanently destroys transaction fees instead of giving them to validators, increased activity is important for XRP's burn mechanism. As a result, more XRP is typically taken out of circulation when network usage is higher. The most recent reading indicates that 337.2 XRP were burned as fees, which is marginally more than the 30-day average of about 319 XRP.

More significantly, the one-year chart displays multiple recent burn spikes, such as a September spike above 1,000 XRP. The consequences for the price of XRP, however, should not be overstated. Since there are tens of billions of XRP tokens in circulation, burning hundreds or even thousands of them has essentially no direct effect on supply. As a measure of underlying XRPL usage, the burn rate is far more significant than as a deflationary force that can cause instant scarcity.

XRP's technical structure

Due to the weakening of XRP's technical structure, this distinction is especially important now. After a dramatic decline from the $1.40–$1.45 consolidation range, XRP is currently trading at about $1.30. The asset briefly moved toward $1.27 and below the long-term moving average around $1.35 as a result of the sell-off. The breakdown was accompanied by increased selling volume.

Another rising moving average is situated between $1.27 and $1.30, where there is still strong support. The $1.24–$1.25 area becomes significant below it. Additionally, after staying high for the majority of the post-August rally, the RSI has moved back toward neutral territory.

The first crucial prerequisite for bulls is to recover $1.35. After that, $1.40–$1.45 would need to be reclaimed for XRP to return to its prior structure. Increasing XRPL activity is therefore broadly beneficial, but the burn itself is still far too small to have a significant impact on the supply of XRP.

The price of XRP will be significantly influenced in the near future by buyers' ability to defend the existing support cluster and halt the most recent technical breakdown.
