Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has introduced a significant upgrade that is meant to benefit the platform’s trading communities.
From now on, users can embed live price charts and market data directly into their posts with the help of the much-talked-about “Cashtag” feature.
X’s Nikita Bier demonstrated the new functionality using a $TSLA cashtag.
It automatically displays an interactive widget displaying Tesla’s current share price, daily percentage change, and a sparkline chart of its recent price action.
All this information can be obtained without users clicking away from their timeline.
The cryptocurrency community was also rather quick to test new Tesla embeds.
Prominent community members were seen testing the feature with XRP, one of the leading cryptocurrencies.
It generates native widgets that display the asset's real-time price fluctuations directly in the feed.
Cashtag evolution
The "Cashtag" feature, which is used during financial discussions, is rather similar to the ordinary and widely familiar hashtag (#) that aggregates various topics on X (formerly Twitter).
It uses the dollar sign prefix that is followed by a ticker (for instance, $XRP). By clicking various cashtags, users can instantly find information about specific stocks or cryptocurrencies.
Earlier, clicking a cashtag would redirect the user to a search page featuring a static price chart at the top.
However, under Elon Musk's leadership, the platform has dramatically upgraded its market tools.
The charts have been moved out of the search bar directly into the timeline as interactive embeds to make things easier for threads.
No crypto payments
At the same time, the platform has made it clear that it has no plans to offer cryptocurrency payments despite Musk repeatedly sharing his vision of X as the "everything app."
However, there is still investor speculation about crypto being eventually integrated into the platform, so the door does not appear to be permanently closed.
