Amid the rising cases of malicious attacks facing the broader crypto ecosystem, a new scheme that is particularly targeting users of the XRP ledger has been discovered.
In a recent post shared earlier today, the XRP Ledger building team issued a security warning to the XRP community after they discovered an increasing number of malicious impersonations by bad actors.
XRP community urged to stay alert
After raising an alarm about the fraudulent operation, XRPL Commons warned that scammers are increasingly impersonating the organization, and all users are encouraged to be cautious of unsolicited messages from individuals claiming to represent the team.
To help users easily detect scammers ahead of such an event, the team behind XRPL Commons warned that they will never send a direct message first asking users for money, bank details, private keys, or seed phrases.
Furthermore, they warned that any person making such requests while claiming to represent XRPL Commons should immediately be considered a potential scammer. Hence, such cases should be reported to the team immediately.
This is coming as scammers continue to deploy manipulative schemes to gain access to the funds of crypto users or their sensitive account information.
What to do?
As scammers continue to impersonate trusted organizations to make their requests appear legitimate, XRPL Commons has advised that users should conduct proper verification on all messages they receive.
They also advised users who receive suspicious messages not to engage with the sender. Instead, community members should block and report the account to prevent further contact that could make them vulnerable.
