The Clearpool credit protocol is officially breaking its exclusive ties to the Ethereum ecosystem. The platform has announced a migration: it is moving its core infrastructure rails to the XRP Ledger (XRPL), leaving its previous growth constraints behind and initiating a full migration of its native token from CPOOL to CLEAR.

The project is effectively becoming Ripple's main on-chain lending partner, positioning itself to take control of the emerging institutional capital market on the network.

The XRP Ledger has historically been associated with cross-border payments rather than DeFi activity. Due to the lack of flexible financial instruments, vast reserves of liquidity within the XRP ecosystem remained idle for years, while Ethereum maintained total dominance in lending.

The situation has changed. With the launch of the XRPL v3 upgrade, the network has finally gained native lending mechanisms. Clearpool is entering this market at its earliest stage, aiming to replicate the success of Morpho's model on Ethereum, which has attracted more than $14 billion in deposits, but apply it to real-world businesses and private credit in entirely new territory.

This is not simply a rebranding exercise designed to generate headlines. Clearpool's expansion is tied to the launch of a major commercial product. Together with Cicada Partners, the project is launching an institutional credit fund to finance fintech and payment companies.

  • Currency: All settlements and payouts will be conducted exclusively in RLUSD, Ripple's new regulated U.S. dollar stablecoin.
  • Ripple's role: Ripple itself has joined the fund as a limited partner, providing the capital needed to supply liquidity to the first lending pools.
  • Current status: The architecture is already being tested on Devnet, while validators on the mainnet conduct the final vote on activating the lending-related upgrades.

Hex Trust, a major regulated custodian, will be responsible for security and borrower verification. It will handle compliance requirements and connect the new XRPL pools with the ERC-20 infrastructure familiar to investors.

Why replace a token that was already working?

The previous CPOOL token, launched in 2021 during the era of Ethereum's dominance, has exhausted its potential: 99% of its supply has already been distributed, leaving the project without reserves to incentivize liquidity across new markets.

The new CLEAR token is intended to become a symbol of transparency. Its name reflects a move away from lending "black boxes" in favor of open, auditable terms and allocations. Resetting the treasury will allow the project to aggressively capture market share on XRPL without being constrained by the limitations of its old ecosystem.

To prevent CLEAR from losing value, Clearpool is reinstating a strict deflationary model. Half of all fees generated by the protocol's lending products will be used to buy back tokens on the open market and permanently burn them. The remaining 50% will be distributed to active stakers.

The proposal has been published on the Clearpool forum for a 14-day community discussion period. Once that period ends, the final decision on launching the migration and activating the XRPL pools will be submitted to a general Snapshot vote by tokenholders.
