First Bitcoin payment for pizza 15 years ago

In 2010, when Bitcoin was trading below $1, U.S. programmer Laszlo Hanyecz published a message on the BitcoinTalk forum, offering 10,000 BTC to anyone who buys and delivers him two large pizzas from Papa John's.

The challenge was accepted by 19-year-old California student Jeremy Sturdivant. He ordered two pizzas and had them delivered to Laszlo Hanyecz’s house. The former made the Bitcoin payment, which back in 2010 was worth about $41. Today, that many Bitcoins are worth a staggering $1.1 billion.

Since 2020, May 22 is celebrated by Bitcoin enthusiasts around the world every year, when they get together, eat pizza and discuss crypto adoption and various ideas about Bitcoin.
