Danmarks Ishockey Union (DIU) has named Concordium the official AI Partner of the Danish National Ice Hockey Team.

The partnership will debut at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, where both organisations plan to roll out two core initiatives built on Concordium’s AI infrastructure.

The collaboration centers on a verified Fan Programme using privacy-preserving zero-knowledge proofs as well as the Agentic Commerce initiative enabling verified AI agents to operate in fan-facing environments.

The goal, according to both parties, is to demonstrate how AI agents with verifiable identity and compliant payment rails can improve large-scale fan engagement.

AI agents, identity and on-chain settlement

Concordium said the partnership builds on its work with the x402 agentic payments protocol and focuses on enabling AI agents that can transact with verified identity at scale.

Varun Kabra, Chief Growth Officer at Concordium, said the key challenge is making AI agent infrastructure “legible” to mainstream audiences, allowing real-world demonstrations of verified, compliant AI systems operating in consumer environments.

"Agents transacting at scale need a verified identity they can carry and settlement rails they can trust," said Varun Kabra. "The infrastructure for that already exists. What it has lacked is legibility, a place where mainstream audiences can see it working. We are very excited to partner with the Danish Ice Hockey team to build together a solution where AI can deliver a much superior fan experience.”

Michael Dupont, CEO of Danmarks Ishockey Union, said the collaboration was designed around co-building practical systems rather than sponsorship visibility alone.

He described Concordium as “Swiss-built and regulatory-grade AI infrastructure” and emphasized that the partnership focuses on applied use cases that align with Danish hockey’s international positioning.

As part of the agreement, Concordium branding will appear on the Danish national team’s helmet and jersey, with category exclusivity across digital assets for the duration of the partnership.

Token-based settlement and on-chain structure

The partnership fee is being settled in CCD, marking what is described as the first national-team sponsorship fully paid and locked in a native protocol token.

Key structural elements include on-chain settlement at signing, protocol-level enforcement of a 12-month lock-up as well as full self-custody maintained by DIU.

This structure positions the deal as a test case for token-native sponsorship agreements in professional sports.

The Danish national team’s matches at the 2026 championship will be broadcast across Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States via platforms including Viaplay, ZDF, ARD, TSN, and ESPN.

The 2025 IIHF World Championship recorded a cumulative live audience of 215 million viewers and 25.6 billion event impressions across 155 territories, highlighting the global scale of the tournament where the partnership will be showcased.
