Bitget has unveiled a significant upgrade to BGBTC, its yield-bearing Bitcoin asset, adding new features designed to improve capital efficiency while allowing users to maintain exposure to Bitcoin.
The update introduces daily rewards paid in BTC, faster redemption for large withdrawals, enhanced transparency and a new institutional-grade risk management framework.
Bitget has also adopted Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the primary infrastructure for cross-chain transfers, building on its existing integration with Chainlink Proof of Reserve.
The exchange says the changes are intended to support growing demand for Bitcoin products that generate yield without limiting liquidity or restricting broader portfolio use.
Expanding Bitcoin utility
Traditionally, Bitcoin holders have often had to choose between simply holding BTC or moving it into separate yield-generating strategies that can involve additional complexity, reduced liquidity or higher operational risk.
Bitget says BGBTC was developed to address that trade-off by allowing users to earn Bitcoin-denominated returns while keeping their assets available for multiple financial activities.
The asset is fully backed 1:1 by Bitcoin and now distributes rewards on a daily basis in BTC.
Beyond providing spot exposure, BGBTC can also be used throughout the Bitget ecosystem, including as:
- Futures trading margin
- Collateral for lending
- A qualifying asset for Launchpool participation
- An eligible asset within PoolX
The goal is to enable users to generate yield while continuing to deploy their Bitcoin across different investment and trading strategies.
Institutional oversight
Alongside the product upgrade, Bitget has introduced an independent Curator framework responsible for overseeing BGBTC's yield strategies.
The first curator is Gauntlet, a quantitative risk management firm known for its work across decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.
According to Bitget, the framework separates investment strategy oversight from asset custody while strengthening portfolio monitoring, risk management and long-term sustainability of yield generation.
"Bitcoin has become one of the world's most important financial assets, but much of it still sits idle," said Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget.
"The next stage isn't simply holding Bitcoin, it's making it productive. We see capital efficiency becoming one of the defining themes of digital asset markets, and BGBTC is designed to help users generate value from their BTC while allowing it the flexibility to put it to work across multiple financial activities."
Bitget has also selected Chainlink CCIP as the canonical infrastructure for cross-chain interoperability. The protocol will support secure distribution of BGBTC across multiple blockchain networks while complementing the exchange's existing use of Chainlink Proof of Reserve, which provides on-chain verification of asset backing.
The company says adopting CCIP lays the foundation for broader multi-chain functionality as it continues expanding BGBTC's use across decentralized finance ecosystems.
Broader capital efficiency strategy
The BGBTC upgrade forms part of Bitget's wider effort to develop products that allow users to generate returns from assets that would otherwise remain idle.
The exchange has recently introduced additional yield-focused offerings, including USDGO Holderyield, as it continues building an ecosystem where users can earn returns while retaining access to trading, lending and other financial services.
Bitget also highlighted partnerships with infrastructure providers such as Morph and Chainlink as part of its longer-term strategy to connect centralized and decentralized finance through a unified Bitcoin yield network.
As Bitcoin adoption continues to expand, competition among exchanges has increasingly shifted toward improving the utility of digital assets rather than simply providing custody or trading access.
With the latest BGBTC upgrade, Bitget is positioning Bitcoin as a more versatile financial asset that can generate yield, remain liquid and support multiple portfolio functions simultaneously while maintaining full backing and institutional-grade risk oversight.
