Bitget, the world's largest Universal Exchange (UEX), has expanded its Open API framework to support Contracts for Difference (CFDs), extending programmatic trading access beyond cryptocurrencies to a range of traditional markets.
The new functionality covers instruments including gold, foreign exchange, stock indices and crude oil.
The move is aimed at traders who operate strategies across multiple asset classes but may otherwise need separate connections, data sources and execution systems for crypto and traditional markets.
Existing Bitget API users can now incorporate CFD instruments into their current strategy frameworks without establishing an additional API connection. This allows research, market monitoring and automated execution to be managed through the same broader infrastructure.
The CFD Open API provides access to functions including automated order placement, account information and real-time market data. Users can also transfer funds and manage trading settings such as take-profit and stop-loss parameters programmatically.
"Adding more markets is only one part of building UEX. Traders also need the infrastructure to interact with those markets in the way they already work," said Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget. "Multi-asset trading is about giving traders the tools to interact with those markets in the way that works for them. By extending API access to CFDs, we are enabling developers, quantitative traders, and other API users to incorporate global markets into the systems and strategies they already use."
API expansion targets
The CFD functionality is designed to support several types of programmatic trading activity, including quantitative strategies, algorithmic execution and applications built around Bitget's API.
The API supports multiple CFD account modes. When submitting orders, users must specify the instrument code associated with their current CFD account configuration.
The expansion comes as Bitget continues developing infrastructure aimed at professional and institutional traders. The exchange has been broadening its product range beyond crypto while attempting to keep different asset classes within a common trading environment.
By adding CFD connectivity to its Open API, Bitget is extending that approach to automated trading. Rather than requiring users to maintain separate technical workflows for crypto and traditional-market instruments, the company is positioning its API as a common layer for managing strategies across both categories.
