Santander is set to launch an international payment app powered by Ripple in the coming months, the bank group’s UK CEO Nathan Bostock confirmed Friday.
“This spring, if not one beats us to it, we will be the first large retail bank to carry out cross-border payments at scale with blockchain technology” Bostock said at the International Fintech conference in London, Business Insider reported.
Santander CEO Ana Botin flagged the app back in January in the group’s 2017 results presentation. The app would go live in Spain, Brazil, Poland and the UK.
Santander spokesperson declined comment on Bostock’s statement when reached by Business Insider.
Santander UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Banco Santander, a major global bank.
