Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin was selected to be among the four distinguished scientists to receive Liberty Science Center's (LSC) 2018 Genius Awards, Thursday.
Twenty-four year old Buterin will be honored for his contribution towards creating Ethereum, the world’s second most valuable cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin.
Among the other honorees are Sara Seager, Laurie Santos, and George Church, a genomics inventor and entrepreneur who is using Blockchain to sequence an individual's genome for less than $1,000 so that individuals can securely retain permanent ownership of their DNA.
Paul Hoffman, president and CEO of LSC says:
"Our 2018 Genius Award winners are four visionary women and men of science, ages 24 to 63, who are busting paradigms. Each personifies what it means to be a genius; each is using his or her exceptional intellectual and creative abilities to disrupt and innovate both in their respective fields and for the betterment of humanity."
Liberty Science Center's 2018 Genius Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Center. The quartet will be honored at a creative black-tie gala held at the Center in Jersey City, NJ on Friday, May 11.
The 2018 Genius Gala brings together more than 700 industry leaders and philanthropists and is chaired by prominent executives working for top corporations and institutions such as Exxon Mobil, EY, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Johns Hopkins University.
