Tsukuba, a Japanese city that is widely known because of its gargantuan research complex with multiple laboratories and educational institutions, has revealed a new Blockchain-powered voting system.

Those who want to cast their vote have to use their My Number card (the Japanese version of an SSN in the US). Once a card reader scans the 12-digit number, a Tsukuba resident can cast his/her vote. Because of its decentralized nature, the system eliminates the possibility of a fraud.

Notably, this is the first time when this innovative technology is utilized in order to increase the transparency of voting in Japan.
