Baidu, often referred to as Chinese Google, launched its Blockchain-powered platform Totem back in April. This startup used the immutable ledger to work with image intellectual property rights. Its authorities plan to bring more efficiency in the sphere of image ownership and also prevent copyright violations.

The website of the company states that Blockchain helps to trace certain images sold, reprint them and change the copyright of traditional images.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Through Blockchain Totem would make image rights and the process of licensing more transparent. It also intends to use Baidu’s AI technology so as to watch out for any copyright violations on the Internet.

Rewards

The rewards that Totem plans to offer would operate as a mechanism for incentivization on the platform; besides, currently, they can already function for user uploads. Their functions will be expanded, though.

Designers and photographers are now being encouraged to apply for online membership.  After they have verified their identity, they are free to upload their pieces of work onto the Blockchain.

Similar projects

Several similar platforms have already used the distributed ledger technology for managing intellectual rights. Earlier in 2018, Kodak, the famous US company, announced its plans to launch a Blockchain KODAKOne and a KODAKCoin token.

KODAKOne works in a similar way to Totem and among other things it allows photographers to have better control of their pictures.
