In a recent interview in a podcast, Brendan Eich, the man who created the Brave browser and also the Basic Attention Token (BAT), has hinted that the platform may just partner with a top content publishing portal. This new partner, as per Eich, is considering the adoption of BAT for payments and rewards. The new partnership is to be bringing the startup at least 80 mln unique users per month.

Eich’s Brave browser enables its users to stop the flow of abusive adverts and trackers. However, at the same time, the platform allows users to make direct user advertising and payments and also funds content makers and advert providers by means of BAT.

At the time of writing, BAT is going at $0.271055.

Details of the announcement

The new mysterious partnership emerged in the talk in the podcast when Eich began to speak about the possibilities BAT can provide for making two streams of revenue for online publishing portals. The revenues come from adverts and micropayouts for individual pieces of content (the so-called payments by the yard). The latter would replace paying for general access so as not to pay too much for the content that will never find its viewers.

The aforementioned micropayments make a “found-cash effect” and are a source of profit that was not possible before since it cannot be done using fiat money.

The mysterious partner

The BAT founder did not announce the name of the new partner but just hinted that it has around 80 mln adblocking unique guests each month. Also, it has a lot more monthly active users who do not block ads. As per Eich, this content portal is willing to try and collaborate with the BAT platform so as to get those adblocking users to shift to utilizing the Brave browser.

The crypto community has attempted to find out who this partner could be. They have tried to use the data regarding 80 mln new adblocking visitors monthly. This scale of users can fit such giants as Wordpress, Reddit, XHamster, Pinterest, to name just a few.

However, out of these, only Wordpress seems to be friendly to crypto, having registered with the Blockchain-powered Civic startup that deals with customer identity. Brave, the browser maker, has also partnered with Civic. However, it is not enough to make any specific conclusion.
